Wetland Week 11 Pages

Now that I have figured out the issues I was having with my computer updates, I can post the printables that I made for week 11. Because of the crazy week I had, we are currently on week 11. Here are a few things I made:

I included a new poem for the week - Ducks by Mary Ann Hoberman. J is loving the new poems and she has committed them to memory. We read them daily and review the previous weeks as well. They are fun poems so she loves reviewing them. This printable is a cut and paste activity. J will cut out the verses of the poem and paste them in correct order in her notebook.

I focused on sight words through out the poem. I felt that J needed more practice with the sight words so I created several games to go along with the focus words from the poem. For this game, J would roll a die and write the word the corresponds to the number rolled.

I also included trace and write the focus words from the poem for more practice.

These bubble words are great for rainbow writing - allow the child to trace the word with several different colored pencils for extra practice.

Sight word magnet sheets - have child use magnetic letters to practice the sight words.

Lastly, a draw and write sheet for the notebook to write facts about the other animals that they read about. Enjoy these printables and I hope they are helpful. If you have any questions or problems , let me know. Thanks.

Wetland Learning File Week 9

The new Wetland Learning File for Week 9 is ready to download. This week's topics were a tough set to create printables. We will be reading about flies, crustaceans, and salmon.

I included a poem by Meish Goldish about fish. This page is a tracer page with some focus words that I thought J should practice spelling.

I included a fishing game. Print, laminate, and add paper clips to the fish. Add a dowel with a magnet and go fishing. This will be good practice for reading as well as rhyming.

I included a fly fact sheet. As you read about flies, write some facts on the fly graphic and add to the notebook.

Wetland Learning Pages

This year, J is learning about different habitats and animals. We are currently using Winter Promise's Animals and Their Worlds. Each day, we read about different animals and weekly, we focus on one particular animal. Winter Promise supplies a notebook page for the animal of the week but I felt like J needed more. Not necessarily more to do but I wanted to increase her comprehension while we were reading. So I created my own notebook sheets for J to work through each week.

Week 8 concentrates on reading about Wetlands and reptiles. I added a fact sheet for wetlands. As J learns about the wetlands, she will add to the notebook page. I included animals, plants, and interesting facts to write about.

We will also be reading about reptiles. I will have J read about the characteristics of reptiles and write/draw what she has learned. Because we use many different resources (not just the ones from the program), she will be able to choose what she would like to add to her notebook page.

Another day, we will be reading about turtles and tortoises. It seemed only natural to add a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the features of both.

Lastly, the focus animal of week 8 is alligators. I created several printables to work with while learning about alligators. Above is an alligator math mat. J will use teeth printables to work through addition sentences. I also included a poem by Dennis Lee about Alligator Pie. I decided to use this poem for spelling practice and added some language arts activities as well.

This printable is my creation, it is not created to replace the program we are using. It was created to compliment it. Please use it accordingly. I have had the idea of creating printables to compliment what we are learning for several weeks. I know that I have started with week 8 of Winter Promise and I have plans to go back and create printables for the earlier weeks. But right now, I will probably focus on the following weeks of our learning. If you have any suggestions or problems, please feel free to contact me. Enjoy learning about the wetlands.

The clipart alligator is from KPM Doodles.
