Twelve Days of Christmas Final Day

This is our final day of our Twelve Days of Christmas unit based on this book by Helen Haidle. We finished mini books and bag book and used this day to put it all together.

If you downloaded my free printable to go along with our unit, then you would have found this printable banner. Sorry about all of the books - a homeschooler's life - you know!

Here's  a close up of the banner. It was hard to photograph complete because it was so long. J colored each day and we taped it to a string. I love it.

The front of Kaleb's bag book. I used one rubber band and a popsicle stick to bind the book. I hole punched two holes and placed the rubber band in locking the stick in place.

The inside of Kaleb's bag book. You can see the open page with the added coloring sheets. Everything he completed for each day was placed in each pocket. It is a pretty thick book but I think it turned out great.

J's completed lap book. We used two large file folders taped together in the middle. She colored a page for the cover as well as one of the hearts from my free printable.

The opened left side of her lap book. We tried to group each day together when possible so it wouldn't be too muddled.

The right hand of the lap book.

We had so many mini books and such that we had to add two flip up pages.

Lastly, the middle of the lap book. Lots of work here but definitely worth it.

Our finished Twelve Days of Christmas tree - yay! Every ornament that the kids made for each of the days of Christmas. Most of Kaleb's will fit in his bag book when it is time to take it down. J's will have to be stored elsewhere. But she is happy that when it is time for her to have her own tree, she will have a set of handmade ornaments for it. I love that!

This was a difficult study to put together but I am definitely glad that I pushed through and finished it. The difficulty wasn't finding the lap book pieces or coloring sheets but finding ornament patterns that each of the children could do as well as finding items to go-along with each day for Kaleb's bag book. But it worked out in the end and the kids enjoyed and learned so much. Even though the meaning behind the song is considered a legend, it was a great learning experience for both of them. Thanks for reading along. I hope that these posts encourage you to try a Christmas Bible study one day as well. Have an awesome holiday. See you next year.

Twelve Days of Christmas - Day 12

We have finally reached the end of our Twelve Days of Christmas unit - 12 drummers drumming. We learned that the drummers represent our twelve Christian beliefs in the Apostle's Creed.

J worked on her coloring sheet.

Kaleb worked on his "I believe cards" which will be placed in his bag book pocket.

Kaleb painted his drum ornament and then added a ton of glitter glue.

Kaleb's finished projects - his bag book pages, coloring sheet, 12 days alphabetical word order, I believe cards, and his drum ornament.

J's finished items - her alpha order, Apostle's Creed, and her coloring sheet.

Their last ornaments for this unit study - drums. Sadly, the Twelve Days are over but we learned a lot. It was a truly interesting unit for the holidays. Hopefully, this has inspired you to do your own 12 Day study. Have Fun - and have a great holiday!

Twelve Days of Christmas - Day 11

We are on day eleven of our Twelve Days of Christmas unit. We have been working on a Christmas unit based on the song and we have been using this book by Helen Haidle as the core. We learned that the 11 piper piping represents the eleven disciples (minus the Judas).

Kaleb was working on his coloring sheet. Each of his sheets go into his bag book pockets.

Kaleb paints his ornaments with water colors. This was a difficult ornament to find. The kids decided to make music notes for pipers piping. I had thought a trumpet.

J worked on coloring the disciples for her lap book.

Kaleb's finished items - coloring sheet, bag book pages, disciples, and music notes ornament.

J's finished projects - her disciples book with each one, her music note ornament, and her coloring sheet.

Also, we watched several bag pipe renditions of the Star Wars theme as part of our lesson - just for fun. We are so close to completing our unit - the tree looks awesome! (pic coming soon) Hope you are enjoying this as much as we do:)

Twelve Days of Christmas - Day 10

We are on day ten of our Twelve Days of Christmas unit. If you have been following the blog, we are working through a Christmas study on the meaning of the song - 12 days of Christmas and we are suing this book by Helen Haidle as the core book for our unit. Ten lords -a-leaping, we learned, represents the ten commandments.

Kaleb colored his coloring sheet for the day.

We played with the cootie catcher, after I reviewed how to fold one! The catcher came from Rachael's Book Nook (link below).

He colored the ten commandment train printable that will go into his bag book pocket. This came from Christian Preschool Printables (link below).

J worked on her fill-in-the-blank 10 commandment worksheet, just for fun.

Kaleb colored his lord ornament with markers. My hope with these ornaments was to make them moveable but it proved too much for my mind at the moment. So, we just used brads to put them together.

J and I discussed the two types of commandments - love God and love others. She separated these into two categories using the free printable from Cranial Hiccups (link below).

Kaleb's finished projects - coloring sheet, bag book labels, ten commandment train, his lord ornament, and his cootie catcher.

J's finished items - coloring sheet, worksheet, ten commandment book for her lap book, cootie catcher, and ornament.

Day ten turned out good. Our tree is definitely filling up - we love it! Hope you are enjoying this study with us. See you soon.

Twelve Days of Christmas - Day 9

We are currently on day nine of our Twelve Days of Christmas unit. If you have been following along with our blog, you have noticed that we are working on a unit based on the meaning behind the 12 Days of Christmas song. We are suing this book by Helen Haidle as our core book for the unit as well as resources from around the web.

J started the lesson with coloring the sheet for the day. They both loved this - which surprised me.

Kaleb worked on his fruits of the Holy Spirit coloring sheet. This will end up in his bag book pocket. This free printable came from Christian Preschool Printables (link below).

They also made a mini fruit of the Holy Spirit bracelet. While coloring, they practiced naming the fruits. This free printable came from Mrs. Jones Creation Station (link below).

Kaleb painted the dancer and the paper for her desk using water colors. The idea for his ornament came from Krokotak (link below).

J worked on her lap book pieces - she looked up each fruit and wrote the definition as well as an example of each in the mini books.

Kaleb's finished works - his dancer ornament (I trimmed the dress some after the picture), his bag book labels, his coloring sheet, the fruit basket, and his bracelet.

J made some ladies dancing using a ballerina template and snowflakes. She loved these so much that she made several. I think we will hang these from her ceiling in her room.

J's finished items - fruit of the Spirit mini book, accordion book, basket, coloring page, bracelet, and her dancer ornament.

We struggled with day nine because of sickness but we finally caught up. They finished their projects a day or two later so we were able to move on. Have an awesome day.

Twelve Days of Christmas - Day 8

Day eight of our Twelve Days of Christmas unit brings us to eight maids a-milking. Eight maids represents the eight beatitudes.

J colored her coloring sheet. This one she had fun with and made a funky cow picture.

Kaleb worked on his bag book.

J colored a cute sheet I found that explained the beatitudes. Kaleb colored one to add to his bag book pocket.

Kaleb worked on his ornament - a yarn wrapped cow. He decided he wanted a red cow with red felt spots.

Kaleb's finished projects for the 8th day - his cow ornament, the bag book pages, coloring sheet, and beatitudes coloring sheet (cut up to fit into his pocket).

J's finished projects - the beatitudes coloring page, the coloring sheet, the beatitudes mini bee book for her lap book, and her cow ornament.

These turned out cute. I gave J the option of making a milk can ornament or a cow - she wanted the cow and it turned out super cute. I love that she wanted to sew her ornaments. I had her sew the ones I could find although we did have a few that she had to make. But they all turned out cute so far:) See you soon.
