As part of our American History program, we are studying American Artists. As the backbone of our art studies, we are using
Great American Artists for Kids. We learn about one artist each week, completing a notebook page, a timeline, and a project to reflect the art of the artist studied. This week, our artist was Edward Hopper.
I was able to find two books about Edward Hopper from the library. We started our lesson by reading each book and learning about Hopper's life.
J worked on an artist page for her notebook as well as an artist card for our wall.
J added Hopper to her timeline book that we use from our Sonlight studies. She was happy to see Picasso on her timeline - her favorite artist.
The project suggested in the
Great American Artists book was to draw expressions on people but I found another project creating a lighthouse landscape from
Art Projects for Kids (link below). I gave J a choice of projects (I really wanted to do the one with the origami boats - link below). She wanted to do the landscape.
Her finished project hanging on our fridge. It turned out cute. She painted it with watercolors after she drew it with pencil. I love the leaning lighthouse. She said she fashioned it after the leaning Tower of Pisa! Hope you are having an awesome week!
