Tot Tuesday

We recently went to the Children's Museum and the kids had an awesome time. Every exhibit was child-sized and tons of fun.

He loved shopping for food at Publix and using the cash register...

driving the Sheriff's car (fighting his sister on who was going to take the wheel!).

But his absolute favorite was the water cycle table. Here, you could push a button and make it rain/flood the town below. He loved playing with the boats in the water and kept asking for the thunderstorm, complete with lightning. I would love to build him a water table like this. But for now, we will just have to wait until we visit the Children's Museum again.

Winter Promise Week 10

This week went by so fast that I didn't really have time to catch up. We are slowly getting ready for our trip back to see Grandma and Grandpa (or Grandma and Grandma, as Kaleb has decided to call them). I have been visiting friends and this weekend, I will see my college-aged son for Fall Break. I have a few pictures of what we accomplished this week.

J worked on her flamingo poetry page that I created. I haven't uploaded it yet but I will. J has enjoyed reading the poems each week and we review the older ones as well. She is learning them by heart which I love.

J finished the first reading textbook this week. She has read every story in the book and we are ready to move onto the next book. She has enjoyed the stories and I love that she is getting practice reading.

Now, the exciting thing this week was by J's choice. She is getting ready to turn 7 years old and I told her that if she wanted, I would take her to get her ears pierced. I explained the procedure (somewhat) and said that when she was ready (whether it be now or years from now), I would make it happen. Wednesday, she asked me to take her and insisted that she was ready to have her ears pierced. Here is my brave girl waiting to have it done...

Here's my brave girl after it was done. I wasn't sure she was ready to go through with it and I gave her many chances to walk away. But she stuck it out and now has pierced ears. She is excitedly waiting for the day that she can change them (6 to 8 weeks later), just in time for Christmas. Well, that was pretty much my week, sorry about the lack of pictures. Candy Corn Printable Tot Pack

Just in time for fall and as an extra printable for Wheel School, I created a Candy Corn Tot Pack. Everyone loves Candy Corn, right?

 It includes:

Candy Corn ten frames - use these with the cute mini erasers from Target or the real thing - candy corn as counters. I included ten frames with markers and ten frames without markers for older children.

Candy Corn number tracing cards - these can be used for number writing practice as well as one-to-one correspondence. Use the cards and add the correct number of candy corn (candy or erasers) onto the cards.

Candy Corn Alphabet game - using the counters, call a letter (or number with included printable) and have child cover the letter with candy. This will be a great review game and then your child can eat the candy later.

Candy Corn Alphabet Puzzles - these are my favorite part of the tot pack. Easier version-print and laminate, cut one part from the candy corn and have child match the correct letter to the main part of the puzzle. Older version - cut each candy corn into three parts and have the child match the upper case, lower case, and correct vehicle to complete the puzzle. Tot Tuesday

One great activity that I usually pull out for the holidays is making cookies with the kids. I was in the store last week and found some fall shaped cookie cutter. I thought it would be a good time for some cookie fun.

Kaleb concentrated really hard to get all of the sprinkles onto the cookie....well, and some into his mouth!

He did a pretty good job. The hard part was trying to hold him off from eating a cookie until after dinner.

"Hey, Ma, where did the chocolate sprinkles go? Wait a minute, I ate all of them!" Hope you are having some fall fun these days.

Wheel School - I is for Ice Cream Truck

Week 9 of Wheel School, I is for Ice Cream Truck, is now available for download. This will be an awesome week, full of ice cream activities to delight any tot!

There were way too many ice cream activities to include for the week.  I tried to choose a variety of fun things to do.

I included a felt board rhyme complete with patterns. Print, laminate, add velcro for the felt board or magnets for the magnetic board.

I included an easy dice game. Roll the die, build your cone, and the person with the largest cone wins. Also in the free packet, there is a pin the cherry on the ice cream cone game as well.

Winter Promise Week 9

This week we finished reading Beryl: A Pig's Tale by Jane Simmons and started reading the chapter book Christopher Mouse by William Wise. (which was scheduled earlier but we had already started Beryl) J reviewed counting money and measuring inches in Math. We learned about salmon and flies (yay) for Science as we worked through the pages that I created for Week 9.

J read two stories in her reading book about frogs. The first was an easy reader about a frog jogging and the next was about Tadpoles to Frog. She then drew the life cycle of a frog in her reading notebook.

J has enjoyed the poetry exercises that I added in her notebook pages. We focus on certain words from the poem to aid in spelling and reading. J reads the poem every day and practices the focus words. On Friday, I give her a "spelling test" to see if she remembers any of the words.

After we read about flies, J is labeling the insect from a free printable found at Mrs. Jacobs' Little Learners TPT store.

J is practicing her spelling words from the poem about fish found in my free printables for Week 9.

J is practicing her reading words by playing a game from All About Reading program. We are working through the first level rather fast since she already learned to read last year and we will be starting level two soon.

We finished our week by making fall cookies and using a ton of sprinkles. What fun! Hope your week went well. Next week, we will be learning about flamingos and manatees. Keep on watch for the learning files to be posted soon. Have a great day.

Wetland Learning File Week 9

The new Wetland Learning File for Week 9 is ready to download. This week's topics were a tough set to create printables. We will be reading about flies, crustaceans, and salmon.

I included a poem by Meish Goldish about fish. This page is a tracer page with some focus words that I thought J should practice spelling.

I included a fishing game. Print, laminate, and add paper clips to the fish. Add a dowel with a magnet and go fishing. This will be good practice for reading as well as rhyming.

I included a fly fact sheet. As you read about flies, write some facts on the fly graphic and add to the notebook.

Wheel School - H is for Helicopter

Week 8 of Wheel School is ready for download - H is for Helicopter. This topic was somewhat difficult to find activities but I found enough to make it a fun week. First, the plans for the week:

I created two part helicopter color puzzles. I would laminate these and add magnets to make them easier to use.

I also included Roll a Helicopter game. Print the helicopter pieces, laminate, and add a die. The first person to complete their helicopter wins.

Winter Promise - Week 8

We are in our 8th week of the school year and if all goes well, we will finish in May. J has been enjoying learning about animals with Winter Promise and she is looking forward to her first 'Merican birthday party as well as her first Halloween. I definitely have been enjoying the experiences that my kids have had here - English libraries, the aquarium, zoo, and Children's museum. I hope to add to those experiences while we are able.

In Math, J reviewed counting money and telling time.

J read a story about fish in her reading textbook. She reads one story a week several times to aid in her fluency.

J enjoyed using some of the printables that I made for this week. She loved the challenge of learning how to spell alligator. I wasn't expecting her to learn it right away but she did. She spent all week telling people how to spell it! If you missed Week 8 printables, go HERE.

She used the letter tiles to practice the word alligator as well as other words from the poem Alligator Stew by Dennis Lee. She loved the poem and I think, when possible, that I will include an animal poem each week.

While we read about the wetlands, we included facts, plants and animals that we read about. This page was added to the animal notebook.

She completed her alligator notebook page. We read a few extra books from the library about alligators.

Kaleb is supervising while she draws her alligator on the alligator fact sheet that I created.

She worked on some addition problems using the alligator math mat that I created. She added teeth to the alligator to work through the math problems. She thought this was fun to do. She then created her own math problems as well.

While reading about reptiles, J added some facts and drew pictures for her facts on the reptile sheet (also in the pack that I created). She loves snakes almost as much as she loves sharks! Well, we had a full week of learning about alligators, reptiles, and turtles. Next week, we will be learning about salmon and flies (yuck). I am working on the printables for next week even though the topic is somewhat difficult. Hope to see you soon.

Tot Tuesday

'Merica has opened a ton of learning opportunities. We have enjoyed visiting the aquarium, the science museum, the children's museum, the tractor museum, and now the zoo. Wow! What a big difference from the zoo that we had visited in our other country.

Kaleb even got to touch a Manta Ray! They were so fun. The rays loved to splash him with their "wings".

He even got the chance to ride the Merry-Go-Round. That was a big thing for him. He didn't want to get on it but once it started, he loved it. 'Merica has kept us busy but I love all of the places my kids can experience and many for the first time!

Wheel School - G is for Garbage Truck

Week 7 of Wheel School is ready for download. Yay! G is for Garbage Truck. I don't know about you but my son has been loving all of this attention to the different vehicles and such. He loves this and he especially loves garbage trucks.

This week's plans are packed with garbage truck activities. My favorite would have to be the mud paint. It looks like so much fun.
