Baby Tuesday

The time has finally come and we now have a new addition to our family. I would like you to meet Riley - a sweet little boy who has captured our hearts :)

We are thrilled that he arrived safely (after being delivered with the cord wrapped around his neck twice)! Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. We are trying to get back in the swing of homeschooling but it is proving to be slow....but we are working on it :) Right now, we are just working on school (slowly) and loving our new addition.

Blog Interrupted

It is time for me to take a small break in my blogging. I am in my 39th week of pregnancy and struggling. Between trying to keep my head above the water homeschooling and trying to prepare for baby, I feel that I need to take some time. I am under stress to have Riley this week because of the doctors who seem to like to induce - if for just the fact that I am in my 39th week. They will not let me go any further and will push induction. Not happy about that. So, I am still waiting, praying, to continue to do what is best for Riley and my family.

I plan on taking some time to recover and spend time with our new member. Please be patient with me as I hope to be back soon. I will miss you guys but I think this is necessary for my sanity. See you soon.

Letter F Interactive Notebook - revisited

Kaleb worked on the letter F this week and we had the chance to work with my Interactive Notebook Pages that I created for the letter.

Kaleb started with the letter F flip books. He cut out all of the pictures and glued the pictures under the letters.

He sorted upper and lower case letter F's using different color pom poms.

He played the fly swat alphabet review game that I created. I added a pipe cleaner to the back of the fly swatter to strengthen it. I called a letter and Kaleb swatted the flies programmed with the letters.

Kaleb then worked on his one-to-one correspondence by adding "laces" to the football. I didn't have white pipe cleaners so I used black ones.

He finished off his notebook pages by making the letter F into a frog. Next week, we will be working on the letter G. Hope these are helpful.

F is for Fire Trucks

This week for Wheel School, we worked on the letter F for Fire Truck. Here are a few of the activities that Kaleb worked on.

First, Kaleb traced the letter F using his fire trucks. He was filling the fire truck tanker with his hose.

Kaleb practiced his one-to-one correspondence by "parking" the firetrucks on the fire hydrants programed with numbers from one to ten.

That's one proud boy - this little boy loves his school:)

I gave Kaleb some alphabet beads and had him separate them into piles.

He then thread them onto red, orange, and yellow pipe cleaners for fine motor practice.

He was all smiles.

Using the magnets from Melissa and Doug that I found, I gave him the ones that we have actually worked on - vehicles for letters thru D. I also gave him some magnet letters. We talked about the vehicles and sounds the letter make. He then matched the letters to the correct vehicle.

Using the magnet letters, he matched the letters to the chart and then tried his hand at tracing the letters.

He found all the letter F's in the fire truck and painted them with the stamper.

We played through the rhyme of 5 Fire Fighters using Kaleb's fire truck toys.

Lastly, we played a vehicle matching game kinda like dominoes. He noticed he made a number three. He is getting pretty good at recognizing his numbers as well as  counting objects. I am really proud of how he loves school and loves the challenge of all of the activities that I plan. Way to go, Kaleb! We are on to the letter G - G for Garbage Truck! Have fun!

Sonlight B + C - Week 7

Week 7 went by without too many distractions. And when I looked back, I found that I did not take a whole lot of pictures, sorry. But I will share some of what we did.

J is independently reading her bible stories. She read about the Ten Commandments this day.

In Language Arts, she learned about Alliteration and practiced reading the silly sentences.

She also learned about adjectives, and fictional/non-fictional stories.

Keke joined us for part of the morning. She doesn't look happy but it was just before her morning coffee :)

And then I had a surprise from my Hubby - flowers! It has been a long time since I have had flowers, aren't they pretty? It made my day. Thanks, Honey. So, not many pics, I will do better next week unless of course I have the baby.....well, I have 2 more weeks for that. Another week down.....see you soon.

Little Man's Birthday

We recently celebrated Little Man's (DD's nickname for Kaleb) 4th birthday. We postponed the celebration for a week while waiting for DH to return from his trip.

It was a simple birthday with cupcakes and blue frosting. Gotta love the blue frosting - gets everywhere and stains everything blue.

He got a wooden train set and a few Batman toys but he was most excited about....

the Batman lego set from Grandma and Grandpa. Thanks, Mom and Dad! He loved it. We opened it right away and put it together. Four years, where did they go? Happy Birthday Little Man! We love you.

Letter H Interactive Notebook Pages - free printable

Sorry for the late post of my next set of interactive notebook pages. I had hoped to have these posted earlier today but sometimes (many times) life gets in the way. I am closing in on the due date of my pregnancy and it seems like I need more sleep than ever! But better late than ever, right?

First pages are the flip books - What begins with H? This is a great beginning to our letter week. We can talk about the pictures that begin with the letter H.

Letter H puzzle - I make this magnetic to make it easier to complete. Give him the puzzle and a cookie sheet.

Heart shaped alphabet puzzles - I made these so it would be easy on your printer ink. Print the hearts on colored paper, glue one part down and have your child match the upper and lower case letters.

Feed the Hippos game - glue envelopes to the back of the hippos and feed them the correct leaves.

Horse Number Puzzles - print these horses onto card stock and cut in half. Match the numbers with the correct dots.

Hat Alphabet Review Game - using pom poms, have child match each letter for review. I have also included a letter H horse craft as well as the pockets for the pieces of the interactive notebook pages. Enjoy Letter H. See you next week for letter I.

E is for Excavator, Elephants, and Eggs

After an unplanned week of from Tot School, we are finally back on track. I had high expectations while moving to our new house. I planned on focusing on the move for two days but it seems a move takes over one's life -huh? We worked with the letter E this week.

Because of the move, I wanted to keep the sensory bin simple. So, I just used my blue rice, added letter E's and an egg that I found in a random bin. I put it together with a few excavators/diggers for digging fun.

Kaleb used his foam blocks to trace the letter E. He worked with both the upper and lower case letters.

I had a last minute idea for a fun alphabet review game - Fried Egg Flip. These pages aren't available in my notebook pages but if you would like to download them, I will include the link below. I gave Kaleb a spatula, placed the upper case letters besides the cookie sheet and the fried eggs on the cookie sheet. He flipped the eggs and used the spatula to match the letters. I also included the vehicles for extra matching.

I found these cute, simple puzzles at Target. I only gave him the letters that we have worked on so far.

I wanted Kaleb to have some tracing practice while learning his shapes. I placed the shape worksheet inside a plastic folder and gave him a dry-erase marker.

E is for envelopes....I found this cute game from PreKinders.  I only printed the number envelopes. He chose an envelope, counted the items, and then "delivered" the card to the correct mailbox. (link below)

I also found some tracer alphabet cards at the Dollar Store. He used his finger to trace the letter e's.

Even though the sensory bin didn't change much, he still had plenty of fun playing with it. He parked his excavators, cement mixers, and trucks around his rice bin.

As a fun activity, I hid dinosaur skulls in the sand and had the kids excavate them. Notice the stick down the middle so there was no question about which side was which. We are on to the letter F.

Sonlight B + C - Week 6

Again, we didn't have your typical week of school - seems like these weeks are becoming more prevalent. DH came home after several weeks and things that have been waiting to get finished or fixed, started to get done in our new house. On top of that, J and I got sick. I had hoped to avoid the whole coughing my head off thing but it was not in the cards. It is one thing to be pregnant but to be pregnant and sick is just awful. So, we struggled again to get everything done but we managed. It was definitely nice to have someone (my DH) around during the day, so I sneak off and take a nap if I needed one. (And this week, I surely needed several!)

In LLATL, J worked on a new reading story complete with contractions, a review of nouns and adjectives, and handwriting.

She worked on her new spelling list. Every day, she does a new activity to practice her spelling words. I allow her to choose which one she would like to do. She likes writing sentences and drawing pictures.

In All About Reading, she worked on "pickle" words - words with C (consonant), L, E at the end. There was a ton of practice using these words but it definitely helped it to sink in.

J is reading from her bible reading book. Kaleb likes to come around when she is reading so he can see the pictures and listen to the story. What else did we do this week? We helped Daddy unpack the car from his trip and went grocery shopping so mom didn't have to. J helped unpack her clothes - we finally were able to get a dresser for the kids clothes as well as a dryer - Yay! She helped wash and fold baby clothes in preparation for Riley. And she met a new friend in our neighborhood - same age and grade. She is super happy. Just another broken week but we did accomplish some things :) I often find myself wondering how we are going to do "everything" with a new baby arriving soon. Only time will tell. Letter E Interactive Notebook - revisited

We finally got the chance to work with my Letter E Interactive Notebook. We are slightly behind in our letter learning but we are continuing through the alphabet - one letter a week.

We started with talking about the letter E and made the mini flip books.

Kaleb cut out the pictures and glued them underneath the flaps.

Another game included in my notebook pages was to match the letters with the correct vehicle.

This matching game was pretty easy for Kaleb, maybe too easy. All of the pieces will fit into the envelope in the pages.
