Letter L Interactive Notebook Pages

If you have been here at my blog lately, you will have noticed that I am trying to tie up loose ends with finishing some projects from my To-Do list. One such project was to finish my Interactive Notebook Pages for the alphabet. Today, I am crossing another one off my list - the letter L. Yay!

I always start with a simple flip book for the letter L. Your child will add L pictures under the flaps.

I included a simple letter L puzzle which I would print on card stock and add magnets to make assembly easier.

There is an upper and lower case letter L sort. Have your child put the L ladybugs on the correct leaves. I would add mini pockets to the back of the leaves so the ladybugs can slip right in.

I also added an alphabet review game - connect the lollipops to the correct letter sticks (not shown).

I added a ladybug math mat. Using black pom poms, create simple addition problems.

Another alphabet review game - call out the letter and have your child place a black pom pom on the correct spot. I hope you enjoy these printables. I regret that I am unable, at this time, to include pictures of my child using these printables. The original child I used these for is somewhat too old for the alphabet and my younger child is too young yet. But I will be using these in the future. If you have any questions, you can contact me or even check my other posts for the Interactive Notebook pages to get an idea of how I would use them. See you soon.

Jedi Reading - ET Word Family with free printable

We are moving on with the Jedi Reading program that I have been working on with my kindergartener, Kaleb. Kaleb wasn't quite ready to learn to read but he had already learned all of his letters and sounds. So, instead of putting reading off for a year, I created a small reading program that focuses on word families. This week, Kaleb focused on the ET word family.

Kaleb practiced the words by reading the word cards and covering the word with a counter chip.

He made his words with the linking word blocks. I love using these, they definitely make learning how to read "hands-on."

He matched the words with the pictures using a free worksheet that I found from Polka Dots Please (link below).

He worked on a word search, finding the ET word family words. This came from Kindergarten Works (link below).

As a review, every day, Kaleb reads the words from the word sliders. They have just about all of the word families that we have worked on so far.

Another hands-on activity, he makes the words using the magnetic letters. I try to include all kinds of activities that will engage him to learn the word families. HE works well with this type of learning. If you would like to download the Jedi Reading file, link is below. Hope you have an awesome day.

These Happy Golden Years

We are working through The Prairie Primer and These Happy  Golden Years. J and I have been enjoying learning and reading about Laura Ingall's life. I have a list of activities that I want to accomplish during this year and one of them was to make lemonade. Lemonade seems to be the drink of the fourth of July celebrations that you read about in the books. We finally got around to making lemonade.

I bought a bag of lemons and tweaked the recipe somewhat. We doubled the recipe since we have so many who wanted to try the lemonade. J dissolved the sugar in hot water.

She squeezed the lemons with her bare hands :) We used the whole bag of lemons minus one for use as a garnish.

Sugar, water, and lemons - we made lemonade! It didn't last long around this house. Everyone loved it! One more activity crossed off my never-ending list - yay! See you soon.

Tot Tuesday

There was a moment that I wondered if my boys could be friends. They always seemed to be bickering and fighting, complaining and whining. But something recently changed. I couldn't say what, it just did. Maybe it was all of the praying and worrying that I did, maybe they grew up some. But I can finally see a difference in the way my boys play and interact. I love it.

I am not saying that they don't still fight but I feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. They just might be FRIENDS:)

Letter K Interactive Notebook Pages

I am back this Friday with another Wheel School finished project. In case you haven't been here in awhile, I am trying to cross some items off my To Do List and one of these items was to finish my Interactive Notebook Pages for the alphabet. Today's finished project that I am crossing off is Letter K Interactive Notebook Pages. Yay! I am working my way through the alphabet and planning on finishing (God willing:) this school year.

The notebook pages start with a simple flip book that the child would add pictures of items that begin with the letter K. The pictures are included in the download but you could also find pictures in magazines or have your child draw their own pictures.

Also included is a simple letter puzzle. I would print this on card stock and add magnets to the back. Using a cookie sheet with the magnets, it makes an easy review of the letter.

I made an upper and lower case letter sort for the letter K. I would add mini pockets behind the locks so the keys can be slipped in.

Another feature of this download is an alphabet review game. You could use pom poms or glass beads, just about anything, and practice the beginning sounds review of each letter that has been learned up to the letter K.

Another review game - call out the letter and have your child cover the letter with a pom pom or bead or such.

I always like to try to include some type of math game. This time, I decided to practice simple addition to the number 5. If that seems too hard, just do what you think your child can handle. I would have counters available to work out the addition problems. A good counter would be miscellaneous keys, if you have nay lying around. I also included a pocket for you to add the random pieces of the notebook pages. If you have any questions, please contact me. Enjoy.

Jedi Reading - EN Word Family with free printable

We are continuing with our Jedi Reading series and Kaleb had moved on to the short E word families. This week, we worked on learning EN words. I typically stay away from blends but Kaleb has asked me to include them, so I included the words then and when.

We start our word family practice by reading the word cards and making the words with the letter magnets. This gives him hands-on practice while he is learning to read.

He played a simple game that I found at The Printable Princess but it seems she took the free printable game down - sorry:(  He spun the paper clip and covered the word for the picture selected.

He worked through one of the games that I created for Jedi Reading. He spun the paper clip and wrote the word that was chosen. This game is in the Jedi Reading pack (link below).

Using the word cards that I created for the word family, he picks a card, reads it, and then covers the word on his word board. We practice this often during the week.

He worked on a word sort that I found from This Reading Mama (link below).  He read the word cards and sorted them to the short e word families.

He stamped his words for the week. He really likes this activity. I found this freebie at Melissa Moran's TPT store (link below).

And he practiced the words using the alphabet linking blocks. Kaleb passed his Jedi test and earned his EN light saber. I am so proud of him and his reading progress. If you would like the Jedi Reading games for EN word family, click on the link below. Have an awesome day.

Letter J Interactive Notebook Pages

I have had so many things left on my unfinished list but not enough time to finish them. Sound familiar? But I am going to go out-of-my-way to finish these items before school lets out. It is such a struggle because, of course, as you know...life gets in the way. And then I have other projects that I am working on for my kids and the cycle keeps moving. But these items have been on my mind and I truly have been wanting to finish them. So, as long as I can, every Friday I will try to post the rest of the Interactive Alphabet Notebooks that readers have been asking for as well as the Wheel School visual plans and games that I did not get the chance to finish.

Today, I am posting the finished Letter J Interactive Notebook Pages - yay! But, I am sad to say that since my son Kaleb is in Kindergarten, I will not be able to show how these pages work. I will, however answer any questions that you have if you contact me and I am planning on working through these notebook pages with my younger tot when the time is right. So, I will be revisiting them. I hope you enjoy these pages.

If you have used my notebook pages before, you know that I always begin with some simple flip books for the letter. The child will cut and paste or can even draw items that will begin with the focus letter of the week. This week, it is J.

I also include a simple letter puzzle with pictures from the focus letter. I usually print these on card stock and add simple magnets to make them easier to put together.

I include an alphabet review game that consists of all the letters that have been learned so far. This game is a jelly bean matching game - match the upper and lower case letters.

I also include a upper and lower case letter sort for the focus letter. This week's is juice and straws. I would typically put mini envelopes on the back of my juice cups so the child can slip the straws into the correct glass.
I like to include a math review game, if possible. This is a jar mat for greater/lesser number activity using jelly beans or even pom poms. I apologize for not creating these pages but I just can't see using the printer ink since my child is older now. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Enjoy.

Jedi Reading - ED Word Family with free printable

Another installment of our new reading program - Jedi Reading. This is a simple program that uses practice of word families to aid in learning how to read. My son Kaleb had already learned all of the sounds of the alphabet but he wasn't ready to move on to a formal reading program this year. So I developed a program that would help him recognize word families to keep on the path of learning to read. We have moved on the E CVC words. This week, Kaleb worked on the ED word family.

I began to add some sight words in our word study. I made a small ring of sight word flash cards and we review them daily.

Kaleb worked on an ED worksheet that I found from Kindergarten Mom (link below).

Kaleb loved his word linking blocks. He worked with them for his ED words.

Riley, in the back ground, likes working with the math linking blocks as well.

I added the word Jedi to his reading list. He thought it was great. It is an ED word, sort of:)

Again, Kaleb working with his linking blocks and, from the table, you can see our reading materials - word sliders, sight word ring, emergent readers, etc...

I always try to find an emergent reader with the current word family. Sometimes, it is difficult but this week I found one from This Reading Mama (link below).

Kaleb felt that my sight word ring was missing some sight words that we were coming in contact with. So, he made a few of his own that he thought belonged so he could practice.

Kaleb is finishing his week with his Jedi test. He has several layers of testing to complete before he can earn his light saber. Here, he is stamping the words that I said to him. He passed his reading test and earned his light saber. Yay!
