Jedi Reading - ED Word Family with free printable

Another installment of our new reading program - Jedi Reading. This is a simple program that uses practice of word families to aid in learning how to read. My son Kaleb had already learned all of the sounds of the alphabet but he wasn't ready to move on to a formal reading program this year. So I developed a program that would help him recognize word families to keep on the path of learning to read. We have moved on the E CVC words. This week, Kaleb worked on the ED word family.

I began to add some sight words in our word study. I made a small ring of sight word flash cards and we review them daily.

Kaleb worked on an ED worksheet that I found from Kindergarten Mom (link below).

Kaleb loved his word linking blocks. He worked with them for his ED words.

Riley, in the back ground, likes working with the math linking blocks as well.

I added the word Jedi to his reading list. He thought it was great. It is an ED word, sort of:)

Again, Kaleb working with his linking blocks and, from the table, you can see our reading materials - word sliders, sight word ring, emergent readers, etc...

I always try to find an emergent reader with the current word family. Sometimes, it is difficult but this week I found one from This Reading Mama (link below).

Kaleb felt that my sight word ring was missing some sight words that we were coming in contact with. So, he made a few of his own that he thought belonged so he could practice.

Kaleb is finishing his week with his Jedi test. He has several layers of testing to complete before he can earn his light saber. Here, he is stamping the words that I said to him. He passed his reading test and earned his light saber. Yay!
